HW 1a solutions & gifs showing time dependence.

These videos contain some solutions to HW 1a problems.

This second one deals with time dependence (#2.1) and might also help with problem 5.3e.

The gif below shows the time dependent wave function for problem 2.1. It is a wave-function of an electron in a 1D HO potential in a state (one state) that is a (normalized) superposition of two energy eigenstates. What is the red graph? What is the blue graph?  Comment and discuss here. (PS. If you want to make these yourself, it is a gif with a bunch of frames (maybe 20 or 30) each calculated for a different time ( as part of a time sequence).)

  1. Is this the gif we are to comment on for problem 5.2 part b?

    1. Not really. This is the gif you are supposed to comment on related to problem 2.1. That other problem (5.2) is still up for grabs.

      Here is the difference.
This one is for the bound state problem, 2.1. This is a bound state gif. 5.2 is asking for a free-electron, unbound state, gif. So the format is the same, both involve a gif showing a the time evolution of a wave function, but the content (the particular wave-function) is different.

    2. Got it, thanks Zack. So about the gif for 5.2, wil you be posting that later on the week or are we supposed to post it? I am not sure I know how to make a gif that is why I ask. I get how it is put together but I do not know if there is a software to do it or a certain website?

    3. I wonder if Java, Python or Javascript has an animation and plot libraries that I am not aware about...
